For those of you who requested all the Japanese emoticons on one page here you go! I figured out a way to get the emoticons to show on this page without having to update the site twice every time I add new kaomoji!

The categories are in alphabetical order as you scroll down the page and there are over 2,000 Japanese emoticons or kaomoji on this page!

Angry

For most angry Japanese emoticons just use > and < for eyes. You can also use ≧ or ≦. Two ¬’s makes sort of a displeased looking face. You can also use slashes or ヽ and ノ to make it look like the emoticon is throwing up it’s hands in anger and if you really want to express anger use a 凸 for a middle finger.  益 also makes a fantastic mouth for angry Japanese emoticons.

Apologizing

These emoticons are supposed to represent someone bowing down because they’re apologizing or possibly thanking someone for something. These use the letter m to show hands and the eyes are low to the ground.

Bears

The main thing with Japanese bear emoticons is the mouth. You want to use (エ), ㉨ or possibly a ω. Everything else is pretty much the same as other Japanese emoticons.  There’s also the other sort of small type of bear made with ᶘ and ᶅ for the sides of the head.

Birds

You can create Japanese emoticon birds by using Θ for a beak (works great for baby birds) or pointy characters like < or ▼.  If you use those you can use pretty much anything else for the rest of it.

Cats are pretty much just most regular Japanese emoticons with =’s added to them as whiskers. ^’s can also be used for ears and you can use ・ェ・ for a cat’s nose.

Clouds

This is a new category of Japanese emoticons that I’ve never encountered before.  They look to me like clouds but I really have no idea what they’re supposed to be.  I’m going to call them clouds anyways since they remind me of cute clouds with faces.  You can pretty much turn any Japanese emoticon into a cloud if you use ꒰ and ꒱ for the sides of the face.

Confused

For confused Japanese emoticons you can use ・ or ◎ for blank looking eyes. ゞ makes a perfect arm scratching a head to indicate thought. You can also add question marks to any of these to show even more confusion. You can also use щ or ლ as raised hands to make emoticons that look as if they’re shouting “Why!?”.

Crazy

This page features crazy looking Japanese emoticons.  There are pretty much just any emoticon where they eyes are facing different directions or the emoticon is waving it’s arms around and freaking out.  I managed to amass enough of these to justify having their own category.

Dancing

For dancing Japanese emoticons you basically just take happy looking ones and add 〜, ノ or ヘ for arms. You can do two emoticons at once with the arms facing different ways to make it seem like the emoticon is dancing in both directions. Adding ” beside the arms makes it seem like it’s shaking too.

Dead

You can easily make dead Japanese emoticons by just using x’s, +’s or *’s for eyes. Keeping the mouth low down with a _ makes it seem like the face is lying down on the ground.

Dogs

The main thing with Japanese dog emoticons is the ears. Use a U for big floppy ears, u for little ears or even V’s for ears as well. You can also use ∵ on either side of the mouth to make it look more dog like.

Excited

There were enough high energy excited looking emoticons in the happy category to justify the creation of this excited category. To make your own excited Japanese emoticons you simply need to make happy ones with > and <s or ≧ and ≦s for eyes.  It also helps if you use slashes or characters like ノ, ヽ or ヾ to show that they’re throwing their arms up in excitement.  Don’t forget that adding stars and other flourishes can only lead to more excitement!

Fish and Sea Creatures

Japanese fish emoticons are somewhat different as they’re from the side and very much look like swimming fish. You can add or subtract brackets to change the length of the fish. It’s also very easy to make crabs as well.

Food and Drink

You can basically take any Japanese emoticon and add a cup to it with a 口, 旦 or 且 to make it look like it’s drinking or use ♨ to indicate hot food or drink.

Giving Up

For Japanese emoticons that are giving up you can usually use _’s for eyes that are low to the ground. You can also use \ and / or similar characters to show arms raised in defeat. Adding a ; for a drop of sweat always works too. You can also add a 尸 to make it look like the emoticon is waving a white flag in surrender.

Happy

For happy looking emoticons you usually want to use eyes that are high up. The best characters to use for these are ^, ´, `, or ⌒ among others. The best characters to use for mouths are ones like ▽, ∀ or ω if you want to be cute. You can also add * or # for rosey cheeks or add waving arms with things like \, /, ヽ or ノ. You can also always throw in stars or hearts too.

Music

For singing Japanese emoticons you can basically take any dancing Japanese emoticon, give it an open mouth with something like a O, △ or □ and adding a musical note like ♪ before or after the face always helps too.  You can make whistling emoticons by using a ε for a mouth.

The main part of sad Japanese emoticons is the tears. These are usually shown with a T or sometimes a ;. Surprised

For shocked or surprised Japanese emoticons you mainly want to use an open mouth such as a □ or Д. You can also use characters to show raised arms.  A lot of surprised emoticons also have a Σ in them.  I think that’s supposed to indicate holding a hand to your head or something.

Thinking

These Japanese emoticons are thinking really hard.  You can best express a look of deep thought by using ¬s for eyes.  Most of these emoticons have an awesome unimpressed look. You can also make a thought bubble like ꒰…꒱ and put whatever you want inside it to show what they’re thinking about.

Waving

These are pretty much standard happy or joyful emoticons usually with a forward or back slash for an arm. You can also use characters such as ヾ to make it seem as if the emoticon is shaking it’s arm.  These emoticons function in both the hello and goodbye positions.

Winking

For winking Japanese emoticons you can take pretty much any relatively happy looking face and make one of the eyes closed by using a flat character like -. You can also use stars which for some reason signify winks.

Worried

Worried Japanese emoticons usually use ; to indicate a drop of sweat. There’s not a lot else I can say about them so check out the examples below.

Writing

You can use φ, 〆 or ψ to make it look like your emoticon is writing. You can also use lines for a table or sheet of paper.

WTF

I have no words to describe these freaky as heck bleeding eye Japanese emoticon things.  I don’t know what kind of messed up mind could create these or why so I’ve decided to call this category of emoticons wtf.  There are also some emoticons here that are kind of… well… you’ll figure it out…
